Massive Voter Purges by Republicans
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/8/0144/73374/148/589714
"Kansas, Michigan and Louisiana are purging their voter lists.
http://www.alternet.org/...
Colorado dumped ONE FIFTH of all voter registrations -- the largest in history
Florida is refusing to accept 85,000 new registrants -- overwhelmingly blacks.
New Mexico: purged half of the democrats in Mora county (Hispanics) and 600.000 mailers were returned
Ohio & Nevada are scrubbing tens of 1000s of voters who lost their homes to foreclosures (Kerry lost by a mere 10-votes per district in Ohio)

We have got to get this information out. To all of the folks distracted by the she-devil, get your head out of Palin's ass and help us alert the media and everyone we know.

Catholic View on Palin
That doesn’t mean, however, that it is sexist to raise them. Instead, it points to the very heart of the problem: From a Catholic understanding of the complementarity of the sexes, should a woman ever find herself in the position where she has to choose between her vocation as a wife and mother and political service? Even considering this a choice that needs to be made implies that, at best, motherhood and political service are of equal value.
But they aren’t—not in the eyes of the Church. That is not to demean wives and mothers, but to raise their vocation to its proper dignity—a dignity that dwarfs any that may once have been attached to politics.
Is Palin a Conservative Christian?
Thomas Fleming of the Chronicles Magazine makes an interesting point. It raises some interesting questions for Christians who are drinking the "Palin" kool-aide:
If Ms. Palin is a truly a Christian conservative, she is
certainly not a conservative Christian. Christians are supposed to understand the implications of “male and female created He them” and, at the very least, realize that a mother’s primary obligation is not to the taxpayers but to her children and husband. It is all very well to celebrate her prowess as a politician and moose-hunter, but I do not recall these as feminine qualities in the Scriptures. I or we are not saying that we cannot vote for a woman who did not stay home to take care of her family, but only that this decision is incompatible with traditional Christian morality.
"We Have Failed Completely, But Next Time Will Be Different"
Daniel Larson gets it:
During his completely forgettable acceptance speech, McCain said:
I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We [Republicans] were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us.In other words, it was the same reform mantra that you are hearing today that was used to propel his party into power, whereupon the party mostly failed to do any of the things the voters expected it to do and instead ushered in an era of corruption, government expansion, unnecessary war and subversion of constitutional liberties, so we should give them another chance to do all of it to us again. I am not sure that we can endure another such era of reform and restoration.

The Vetting Continues
"Her pastor speaks after her of the "last days" when the lower 48 states may have to seek refuge in Alaska. This governor is on a path, by her own testimony, that is being guided by God."
Thanks Sarah
Sarah Palin is the new fundraising weapon -- for the good guys.
Update: The GOP raised $1 million after the speech.

Quote of the Day
.The one moment that stays with me tonight, oddly enough, was not Palin's speech. It was a line from Giuliani, a New York mayor with a young third wife and gay friends, mocking a "cosmopolitan" who was brought up by a single mother. It was that Barack Obama's rise could "only happen in America." And it was designed to mock him, the first African-American candidate for the presidency of the United States.
I won't forget that.-Andrew Sullivan
Live-Blogging Palin from Andrew Sullivan
11.10 pm. Reality television has become our politics.
11.06 pm. Both Huckabee and Palin have used the t-word. Of course, they are not criminally liable, as Bush is.
11.05 pm. Every time the camera pans to McCain's mother, she seems mortified. I don't really blame her. Can you imagine what she was thinking as a tiny special needs baby is passed from person to person for the cable news.
11.03 pm. However admirable it is to be a mayor, is it really necessary to drip contempt for people who work as community organizers? It seems to me that Palin doesn't quite have the stature to be putting down someone who has won millions of people's votes. This is a much more partisan speech than I was expecting.

Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms
By Paul Kane (WASHINGTONPOST.COM)
ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican

McCain Camp Mum On Palin's Role In Alaska Secession Party
AND THE BY THE WAY, SECESSION IS THE MAIN REASON WE FOUGHT THE CIVIL WAR. LOOK IT UP . . .
COMMENT AND VIDEO IS FROM THE JEDREPORT:
So it turns out that in the 1990s, Sarah Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party whose primary objective is to secure a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the United States. Their party's motto? "Alaska First - Alaska First Always."
I'm sure McCain will eventually have to comment, but according to Marc Ambinder: "A McCain spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment." I'll guarantee you that we know more about Sarah Palin than does McCain or his campaign.
For more background, see Jake Tapper and Marc Ambinder, as well as this post and this post at Daily Kos.
Update (5:06PM): Here's a video of Palin, when she was governor, addressing the Alaskan Independence Party convention. By this point, she was a Republican, but it's not often you hear of a member of one political party addressing members of another political party, is it? She emphasizes what they have in common, including her vision for a "self-sufficient" Alaska, which surely sounds like a code word for secession, does it not?
Alaska Independence Party Meeting
From Marc Ambinder's blog:
At the AIP's meeting, the AIP's vice chairman, Dexter Carter, extols Gov. Palin's virtues. He recalls Palin's service as a member of the party at about six minutes in to this clip.
Mr, Carter says that AIP members must "infiltrate" -- his words -- the other two parties and push for the cause of Alaskan independence.
