John Lennon - Real Love (Guitar Version)

Here's John Lennon recording a demo of REAL LOVE (1977 or 1978) that will later be rerecorded with the other three Beatles (1995). But this version is as good as any other Beatles song. Enjoy.

John Lennon singing Lady Marmalade

I think this came from a 1975 French TV interview. Further proof that this was not a "Lost Weekend."

John Lennon - Old Dirt Road

One of Lennon's hidden gems. . . This was during his "Lost Weekend." There was nothing "lost" in those 15 months. Lennon wrote some pretty damn good songs during that time.

From the "Wall and Bridges" album (1974).

Paul McCartney on Desert Island Discs, January 1982

WOW! I CAME ACROSS THIS INTERVIEW JUST NOW. CHECK IT OUT! PAUL'S REACTION TO "BEAUTIFUL BOY" IS VERY REAL! YOUTUBE. YOUTUBE!

WHAT IS DESERT ISLAND DISCS? HERE'S YOUR ANSWER COURTESY OF WIKIPEDIA:
Desert Island Discs is a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme. It was first broadcast on 29 January 1942 and is said by the Guinness Book of Records to be the longest-running music programme in the history of radio. [1] Guests are invited to imagine themselves castaways on a desert island, and to choose eight pieces of music to take with them; discussion of their choices permits a review of their life. They must also specify which one of these pieces they regard most highly. Aside from music, they are permitted one book, excluding the Bible or other religious work and the complete works of Shakespeare, which are already present on the island to force more original choices. They also choose one luxury which must be inanimate and of no survival value, though large supplies of champagne seem to be allowed.[2] The names and selections of some of the more recent guests are listed separately.

John Lennon - One Day At a Time (Anthology Version)

This is from Lennon's anthology box set. It's rare to hear his voice isolated in any of his recordings (especially Beatles). Lennon was not a fan of his voice so he always overdubbed it in the studio. The anthology set has plenty of recordings of Lennon without overdubs. Here's one of my favorites!

John Lennon - Mother (live)

This is from Lennon's first solo album "Plastic Ono Band". His best solo album by far! Lennon traced much of his unhappiness back to a sense of rejection by his parents. And now, to free himself of that baleful legacy, he must in turn say goodbye to them. Powerful stuff!

"Gimme Some Truth!" - John Lennon

John Lennon - Evolution of Jealous Guy

WIKIPEDIA
The song's genesis came in India, after The Beatles attended a lecture by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi about a "son of the mother nature". This inspired both Paul McCartney and John Lennon to write songs about the same subject. McCartney's composition "Mother Nature's Son" was selected for The Beatles (the White Album), while Lennon's song "Child of Nature" was not

This is from Gimme Some Truth - The Making of John Lennon's "Imagine" (2004)DVD. This is a must for your DVD library if you're a fan of The Beatles.

Paul McCartney - Here Today

Written and recorded in 1982 as a tribute to John Lennon. Pretty good song with some real heartfelt lyrics.

This is classic McCartney.

John Lennon - "India" and "Real Love" (Rare Home Recording)

This is part of Lennon's home recordings dubbed the "Dakota Recordings." Lennon was in "exile" from late 1975 to the early part of 1980. During that period he would often record demos that never saw the light of day. You can hear these demos through the "Lost Lennon Tapes" (Itunes podcast) or purchase the "Lennon Anthology."

I consider this song to be a "Jewel in Lennon's Crown." :) By the way, India played a huge role in what many consider to be their best album (White Album). I'll write about that later. . .

Here's another home recording: Real Love. This is classic Lennon!

John Lennon - Isolation

This is from Lennon's first solo album "Plastic Ono Band" (1970). If you're not familiar with Lennon's solo stuff then you must start with this album. He's ripping his heart out for you and the music. The Beatles are done and heroin is leaving his body. . . Deep stuff here!

John Lennon and friends- Yer Blues

John Lennon playing a Beatle song with Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Mitch Mitchel. This was part of the Rolling Stone's "Rock N' Roll Circus" film. Recorded on December 11, 1968. Good stuff!

You can find the original song on the Beatles WHITE ALBUM (1968).
